Self Hypnosis

A thought for today:
"A smile can make short work of any difficulty"

Years back a friend of mine gave me a book about Self Hypnosis. I read it out of curiosity to know if I can do supernatural things; like floating in the air, flying in space and the like. None of what I imagined I would find in this book was as per my expectations. It was simply a set of mind deception techniques to acquire good habits and discard bad ones; Like getting into sports, overcoming sleeping disorder, quit smoking, getting over phobias, etc,etc
On one of my attempts to test this newly acquired knowledge, I tried to self hypnotize myself on the dentist's chair, undergoing root canal without anesthesia. The dentist was hesitant at first, but he finally gave in to my wishes after convincing him. And if you know me well, you would know that I never dreaded anything in my life as much as I did sitting on the dentists chair and listening to the squeaking sound of the drill with mouth wide open, let alone the nerves pain, and the funny aftermath taste and feeling in the mouth, yuk.
But it did work, the experiment was highly successful. The dentist not only did one tooth, he got encouraged to do another one that was set for a next appointment, but he never stopped blabbering; "amazing, how can you do that, this is not possible, bla, bla, bla". Of course, I was in my own sphere and totally ignored him. When he finally finished, he asked me: "how did it really feel", my answer was: "orgasmic" and he blushed. heheheeeeee
Self hypnosis was my first entry into yoga world; it is actually some type of meditation
Years after, my dad was suffering from a severe case of insomnia. So I lent him my book to try. At first, he took it as a joke. But when he overcame his sleeping disorder, he never gave me back my book, you know why?
He said:" a fool would lend a valuable book, but an idiot would return it" :(

Dear Wallada
Yes it is possible to learn how to hypnotize yourself from a book, my friends have tried it. I did, my dad did. But the problem is finding the right book that would get straight to the point without you loosing your attention along the way.
I recommend this book: Instant Self Hypnosis: How to Hypnotize Yourself with Your Eyes Open. You can get it from The Family Bookshop in AlMothana, if they are out, they can order it for you. Take care

Again, I LOVE this topic. Rabab honey, you can do no wrong.

I've always been curious about hypnotism even since I was twelve. It fascinates me and that leads to the collection of books on hypnotism that I've barely even touched on my shelf. Been meaning to read those for awhile now :P Anyways I never knew that you could hypnotize yourself as well.

As for your root canal operation, I'm glad it went by okay for you. I was scheduled to have a root canal operation six years ago as well but I was too scared and ran away. Luckily though, the dentist came up with an alternative albeit temporary plan.

I checked out the link. I especially liked the article on the "evil eye" :P

It is remarkable that you went through a root canal without anaesthetic. And orgasmic? Hmmm worth looking into to then ;)

Yeh root canals are very painful and uncomfortable even with anesthesia. But the thing is I hate anesthesia even more. And I also found the link on evil eye very interesting, I thought only us Arabs believed in this shit, heheheeeeee

You're welcome dear
And BTW, this book is about 170 pages and very easy to read.

Thanx dear, and did you know that some would go under surgery with self hypnoses? I didn't try that yet, and don't know if I can :)

Maryam
Cockroaches phobia, hmmmmmmm , I guess you have to try it out and tell us ;)

One of the many methods used is to link the subject you want to overcome to something that you really can relate to but you feel different about. For example: I hated the tooth pain, and hated anesthesia more. So I had to link it with something that is painful (sometimes) and also gives me pleasure; I chose to link it to sex. This was practiced for sometime before the actual experience to make the image readily available when I wanted it. So on the dentist's chair I started by relaxing my body completely, then drifted my mind in a sexual intercourse, the more piercing was done on the roots of the tooth, the more exited the sexual experience became. So I was not joking when I said that it was orgasmic ;)

Well Perg, I guess I've seen something about getting over your obsession with penguins and P4's :p
